Yogaयोग

A luni-solar combination in Panchang, one of its five elements.

Detailed Explanation

In the context of Panchang (Hindu calendar), Yoga refers to a specific angular relationship between the Sun and Moon. It is calculated by adding the longitudes of the Sun and Moon and dividing by 13°20'. There are 27 yogas in total: Vishkambha, Priti, Ayushman, Saubhagya, Shobhana, Atiganda, Sukarma, Dhriti, Shula, Ganda, Vriddhi, Dhruva, Vyaghata, Harshana, Vajra, Siddhi, Vyatipata, Variyan, Parigha, Shiva, Siddha, Sadhya, Shubha, Shukla, Brahma, Indra, and Vaidhriti. Certain yogas like Siddhi and Amrit are considered highly auspicious, while others like Vyatipata and Vaidhriti are inauspicious. This is different from the practice of Yoga (physical postures and meditation), although both share the Sanskrit root meaning "union."
